SUMMARY

The Director of Facilities will provide leadership, management, and direction to various resort operations departments. Together with the General Manager and the senior leadership team, the Director of Facilities will help ensure the overall success of the resort in terms of the following: executing daily operations, reporting of operations, financial results which include expense and labor management in accordance with budget requirements, staff development, future resort planning and strategies that will drive guest and employee satisfaction, and compliance with all governmental regulations ensuring that safety is paramount across our resort’s year-round operations for both staff and guests.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned)

  • Direct and oversee the management of all resort facilitates and infrastructure to produce an exceptional guest and employee experience.
  • Contribute and, together with the departmental director, organize and refine guest experiences and expectations within multiple departments from maintenance, waterpark, and ice arena operations to athletic fields and electrical and HVAC depts.
  • Successfully recruit, hire, coach, motivate and develop a high performing management team. Ensure management team and employees are aligned with Jay Peak Resort goals, and values.
  • Effectively communicate with a large diverse staff with wide ranging backgrounds.
  • Be a leader in the effort to improve safety within operations with the goal of reducing/eliminating worker and guest injury. Work collaboratively with the Director of Safety and Risk to develop and implement Emergency Programs; manage staff that ensures all emergency equipment is maintained.
  • Ensure that the guest experience from resort arrival through departure meets or exceeds standards set by the resort’s management and senior leadership team while working cooperatively with Directors to refine and reimagine processes to provide a higher level of delivery, service, follow-through and experience on behalf of our guests.
  • Prioritize and adapt in a constantly changing business and operational environment
  • Create and oversee departmental budgets while tracking performance to expectations.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive capital projects plan related to facilities management. Assist department heads with capital planning & implementation.
  • Develop and implement energy management strategies.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with key managers outside the scope of direct reports.
  • Increase operational efficiency and effectiveness through on-going communication and cooperation with operations departments.
  • Work with those profit center managers under the position’s mgmt. scope to help drive sales for both top line revenues and bottom line EBITDA contributions.
  • Other duties as assigned, which could be directly related or unrelated to original position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly manages 4-5~ subordinate managers who supervise ~30-50 employees within resort operations. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of these units. Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent; 6-10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with complex electrical and HVAC systems is a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Project Management software, Microsoft Office Suite of Programs.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a valid Driver’s License and eligibility for enrollment on the resort’s Motor Vehicle Insurance policy.

Must possess strong strategic thinking and planning skills. Have the ability to plan, organize and multi-task a significant amount of projects and information relating to each department supervised. Must have strong leadership and communication skills, bringing together departments and individuals from various areas throughout the resort to work cohesively towards a common goal. Strong project and process management skills are required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
This individual must possess strong credibility in the local and regional government and community arenas. It is important that this position interact in a positive, credible, and trustworthy nature in all relationships both internally and externally.

RESORT CONDITIONS

This is a Winter Resort Area. It requires that work venues are varied, and in many cases include steep stairways, multi-level buildings and outdoor work areas, subject to very cold, sometimes wet or very sunny work sites. Some facilities are located at the base or bottom area and some are semi-remote and can only be reached by traveling via chair lift(s), skis or snowboards. Walking surfaces are frequently frozen, sloped and slippery. Proper footwear is a must, indoors and out. Work days and hours, as well as the number of hours required will vary, with an emphasis on weekends and holidays.
