SUMMARY
The Director of Mountain Operations oversees, and is ultimately responsible for, all aspects of mountain operations departments, including administration, lift maintenance and operations, snowmaking, grooming, ski patrol, terrain parks, on-mountain events that involve mountain operations or race competitions, ambassadors, snow removal, roads and parking lot maintenance, vehicle maintenance, and trails maintenance and summer use.
The Director oversees planning and execution of on-mountain capital projects, including management of environmental permitting of development projects. The Director administers the resort’s environmental affairs and ensures compliance with the resort’s Water Quality Management Plan (WQMP) per State regulations. The Director also provides support to owners and management regarding land use planning, engineering, permitting, and development.
The Director demonstrates a strong focus on guest and staff safety, and is responsible for building and maintaining a strong team and an enjoyable atmosphere for guests.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Must be proficient in use of all basic computer programs-Word/Excel/Email/Search.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must hold a valid State of Vermont Driver's License and be eligible for enrollment as a driver on Jay Peak’s Commercial Automobile policy.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. RESORT CONDITIONS
This is a Winter Resort Area. It requires that work venues are varied, and in many cases include steep stairways, multi-level buildings and outdoor work areas, subject to very cold, sometimes wet or very sunny work sites. Some facilities are located at the base or bottom area and some are semi-remote and can only be reached by traveling via chair lift(s), skis or snowboards. Walking surfaces are frequently frozen, sloped and slippery. Proper footwear is a must, indoors and out. Work days and hours, as well as the number of hours required will vary, with an emphasis on weekends and holidays.
